Interview: The Man, The Myth, The Legend… Ryan Eagle

"Photo shoot fresh, lookin like wealth, about to call the paparazzi on myself."

I feel like I shouldn’t even need to add an introduction to this post. If you don’t know Ryan Eagle by now, you live under a rock. Owner of EWA Network and BLAM! Ads, as well as various other projects that you probably never even heard of, Ryan Eagle is definitely on top of his game. Ryan had a few minutes free and I was lucky enough to get him to agree to an interview. Enjoy.

Tell us a little bit about yourself – who you are, what you do, etc.

Everywhere I go, my name is known. I’ve been ballin’ out since 2004 when several web properties of mine hit massive success. Since the beginning of my career I always worked harder, smarter, and longer than anyone else I know. I never get content. I never get comfortable. I’m still pushing 18 hour days and because of that I’ve hit successes that would make your girlfriend faint.

I began affiliate marketing in 2005 and developed huge campaigns throughout the years, saving all my capital for my goal of starting my own affiliate network. In February 2009 I finally achieved that goal of creating EWA Network – a hugely successful affiliate network that has grown entirely by word of mouth referrals. In Mid-2010 we developed our second advertising network, BLAM Ads Content Locking. It was launched after what seemed like a never-ending cycle of sleepless nights, and has developed into one of the fastest growing content locking networks in the industry.

How did you get started in the affiliate marketing industry?

I noticed that affiliate marketers were the ones advertising on my websites through AdSense, so I simply cut out the middle-man and went direct by adding banners to my websites. To say the least, I was not content with the results and had heard rumors of people making millions with this by purchasing advertising. My first successful campaign was promoting SinglesNet.com’s dating offer – I can still remember when the lead was logged instantly in my affiliate backend. I was instantly hooked and never looked back. Nowadays, I still operate a very success internal marketing division in our company with seven media buyers driving thousands of sales a day through EWA Network.

Tell us a bit about EWA. How did you decide to start an affiliate network? What is it like owning one of the most popular affiliate networks in the industry?

I make this look easy, but it’s taken a level of dedication and passion that cannot be matched by anyone. I’m the absolute best at what I do, and that’s exactly why EWA is ranked at the top while we look down on the lowly competitors. It was my goal for years to start an affiliate network, but I just needed sufficient capital to float the merchants in order to start. I prided myself in operating a debt free company that never took loans, nor had any outside influence that hindered the competitors. When I had generated enough capital, it all went towards building the company with my business partner Harrison Gevirtz. With the two of us working together, we destroyed competitors one by one by providing the best solution for marketers.

Tell us a bit about BLAM! Ads. When did you decide to get into the content locking space? What have you been doing that the competition isn’t?

Back in the good ole’ days of easy money, I was one of the top publishers with ZangoCash. I generated hundreds of thousands a month from PPI installs, being one of the first to pioneer their old gateway format. I realized the potential, made websites built specifically for this monetization model, and had my goal in mind from there. Unfortunately at the time I had to idea how to get from point A to B, then came affiliate marketing, and you can connect the dots from there.

What have we been doing that the competition isn’t? What haven’t we been doing: we pay faster, we have more offers, we have guides, we have the strongest community, we have account managers that work around the clock, we have farther international reach, we have more exclusives. I can go on an on but I don’t need to beat a dead horse, their numbers are already showing that BLAM Ads is taking their business away.

For those who don’t know, what’s the big deal about content locking? And can you really make big money with it?

It’s a relatively new arena that allows webmasters to finally make money off their visitors. Being a webmaster myself, declines in advertising revenue have been consistent over the past several years from traditional services like AdSense. BLAM Ads technology, being modest, makes webmasters more than 200% more money from their websites and applications. I see publishers inside of BLAM outdo EWA publishers on a daily basis, clearly showing that the potential in this industry is immense.

What does EWA and BLAM! offer for its affiliates to help them succeed? Training, creatives, etc?

Between the network newsletters, campaign mini-guides, 45 epic guides explaining how to promote niches and on traffic sources, our Facebook group, our twitter, and finally our experienced account managers – nobody can top us. We keep our affiliate base exclusive and small so our affiliates always come out the most informed and on top. Our service cannot be compared to any affiliate network out there and we do this because our team actually markets campaigns ourselves, openly sharing knowledge with our private publisher base.

You’ve been hinting at a big change to the Blam! content locking gateway for a while now. Any chance you can give us a hint as to what that big change is?

An entire network technology upgrade containing several new formats ranging from flash overlay gateway, link shortening, more robust optimization, and brand merchanting solutions. We’re in beta testing stages now and I’m confident that this new release will position BLAM Ads as leader not just in payouts and service, but in technology. By building our own proprietary platform it allows us the scalability and flexibility we need to grow our company into new areas not yet explored. We are pioneers in the industry, and you will see the release of this in the coming weeks.

A lot of affiliates are getting into the mobile space now. Does EWA carry any mobile-formatted offers, or are you guys bringing any in soon?

We just did a private investment in a mobile advertising company, so I’ll refrain from saying much more than that. Between you and I, you’ll see a lot more mobile formatted offers come to our properties in the new two quarters.

What is your current favorite vertical? Are there any verticals you think affiliates should keep an eye on?

Mobile. I’ve been dominating it since 07′, I own offers, and I understand almost every way to turn profit with this niche. It continues to remain stable and profitable for me since I began years back, and it’s grown more and more especially in international regions.

ASE is coming up. Will EWA and Blam! be there? And more importantly, will people have a chance to rub elbows with the Birdman himself at the conference?

Catch me rockin’ a pink or purple custom suit, some gucci gators, and a watch that would blind the most experienced ballers with clear VVS’s. I’m excited to meet the people that I speak to on a daily basis, I love this industry.

International offers are huge money. You’ve been telling me that as long as I’ve known you. A lot of affiliates are just starting to figure that out now. What countries do EWA and Blam carry offers for? Are there any countries that you think affiliate marketers don’t pay enough attention to?

We’re covering over 210 countries now, not that I’m counting. With reach that large we cover almost any place that has a computer, or a populous worth promoting to.

What advice would you give to people who are just getting started in the industry?

Stop reading. Don’t buy eBooks. Pull your damn card out and lose some money, it’s your best teacher.

And of course, the question everyone is waiting for: How do you spend your money? What kind of toys do you buy? We’ve all seen pictures of the cars and the clothes, but is there anything else?

Trust me, you have not seen a tenth of the cars, clothes, diamonds, vacations or anything else obnoxious that I like to buy. I wouldn’t want to hurt my haters feelings that much, they already get enough knowing that I live a reality brighter than their fantasy.
